Jack Bauer At Work: Terror Cell Infiltrated And Busted
June 22, 2006
Actually, this whole scenario sounds more like Sleeper Cell. Anyway…
This is breaking news, so details are kind of sparse at this point. Attorney General Albert Gonzales has a press conference scheduled for 1000 tomorrow to disseminate more information.
After an operation that started about four months ago, the FBI has arrested several suspects of domestic terrorism in a Miami low-income housing project.
The arrests took place Thursday afternoon at the Scott Housing Projects in the area of NW 68th street and 15th Avenue. Miami Police officers were seen in the area securing a perimeter for the FBI to carry out their arrests.
Sources tell CBS4 News it is unclear whether weapons or bomb-making materials were found, but those detained are suspected of being involved in planning terrorist activity.
Neighbors say suspicious activity had been observed at the home recently.
The Sears Tower in Chicago was one of the targets for a terrorist strike:
ABC News has learned that federal agents, including the FBI, are launching a series of raids tonight targeting a suspected terror cell based in Miami. According to sources familiar with the investigation, the group allegedly planned to bomb the FBI building in Miami and the Sears Tower in Chicago.
The group has been under surveillance for some time and was infilitrated by a government informant who allegedly led them to believe he was an Islamic radical. The suspects are described as African Americans and at least one man of Caribbean descent.
Note the very careful aversion to ackowledging any pertinent religion of the terrorists. “But HEY”, says ABC, “they’re BLACK”. I don’t give a crap if they’re purple - they’re terrorists. They all belong to the same religion of hate and insanity.
Allahpundit points out that early reports that the terrorists were not Islamic are false: Government officials tell Fox the men were plotting “to wage jihad in conjunction with Al Qaeda.†HotAir has a video of the Fox News coverage.
UPDATE:Allahpundit has some good news from Capt. Ed on the nature of the terrorists, like we already didn’t know:
Residents living near the warehouse said the men taken into custody described themselves as Mulims and had tried to recruit young people to join their group, which seemed militaristic.
The residents said FBI agents spent several hours in the neighborhood showing photos of the suspects and seeking information. They said the men had lived in the area about a year.
The men slept in the warehouse, said Tashawn Rose, 29. “They would come out late at night and exercise. It seemed like a military boot camp that they were working on there. They would come out and stand guard.â€
She talked to one of the men about a month ago: “They seemed brainwashed. They said they had given their lives to Allah.â€
I swear - tell me that ain’t straight out of an episode of Sleeper Cell. Which if you haven’t seen yet - you MUST. That’ll get your panties in a bunch.
NBC goes a bit futher in their physical description of the Pisslamists:
The men — part of a radical Black Muslim group — were planning terror acts in Miami and Chicago, officials say…
Benjamin Williams, 17, said the group had young children with them sometimes.
“We were under the assumption that they were opening up a garage business,†he said, adding that they wore normal clothes “but sometimes they would cover their faces. Sometimes they would wear things on their heads, like turbins [sic].â€
Meanwhile, Drudge is alseep at the wheel - nary a mention of the biggest news since Zarkman was eliminated or the WMDs found in Iraq (told ya so) or anything other than a very hot first day of summer. What’s up over there?!
The Ditzy Twits, Ditzier Than Ever
June 17, 2006
Why do we even bother talking about them?
Easy. It’s fun pointing our fingers at the little bleached bimbos, laughing at their misery and mocking their moronitude beyond all decency. Like when they say “patriotism? Who needs it?”
When Maines made her comment on March 10 2003, 10 days before Operation Iraqi Freedom unleashed “shock and awe” over Baghdad, the Dixie Chicks were probably the biggest act in country music. Yet within days, their music vanished from the charts and the airwaves, apoplectic rednecks crushed piles of their CDs with tractors, and the FBI was feverishly monitoring death threats against the trio. It was the most heinous pop-star outrage since Ozzy Osbourne urinated on the Alamo.
“The reaction was as if Natalie had said ‘Death to the President’ or something,” says violinist and vocalist Maguire.
Or maybe it was as if she’d stood up in the middle of a war, on stage, on foreign soil, taking a dump all over her Commander-in-Chief and proclaiming that she was ashamed to even be from the same State as he. All to please and pander to the EUroweenie crowd, of course. In other words, the reaction was one of utter disgust.
“It was the bullying and the scare factor,” shudders banjo and guitar player Robison. “It was like the McCarthy days, and it was almost like the country was unrecognisable.”
The McCarthy days that Robison remembers so very well, having not even been born then. But hey, it’s something that her liberal friends like to scream and bellow every time anybody disagrees with them, so it must be true. Like some secret moonbat mantra or something, right? Whenever a liberal has been babbling for a while, I invariably get the urge to offer them a cracker for some reason.
“McCarthy!” “Squashing of dissent!” “Waaaaah!”
In Iraq, the Iraq that existed before the President that the Ditzy Twits are so ashamed of gave the order to stop the genocide, “squashing of dissent” meant throwing people into plastic shredders, raping little girls to death and feeding their corpses to the dogs etc. etc., so pardon me if the fact that nobody wants to buy your junk anymore fails to make the needle on my Sympathy Meter twitch.
The Chicks can’t hide their disgust at the lack of support they received from other country performers.
Sure. It’s their sacred duty to commit career suicide and piss on their nation’s flag just because you do.
“A lot of artists cashed in on being against what we said or what we stood for because that was promoting their career, which was a horrible thing to do,” says Robison.
Sure. Everything those other artists who stood by their nation in times of war were just doing it to protect their careers because, obviously, they couldn’t possibly disagree with you silly cows, seeing as how you’re infallible and all. Once again it’s proven: Talent is inversely proportional to ego. The less of the former, the more of the latter.
“A lot of pandering started going on, and you’d see soldiers and the American flag in every video. It became a sickening display of ultra-patriotism.”
Pandering? Well, you are an authority on the subject, considering how you could barely wait to get out of the country to pander to the EUroweasels. And nothing sums you airheaded poodles up better than the fact that you find patriotism sickening. Not as sickening as we find the fact that you have U.S. passports, but such is life. It doesn’t always make sense.
“The entire country may disagree with me, but I don’t understand the necessity for patriotism,” Maines resumes, through gritted teeth. “Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country… I don’t see why people care about patriotism.”
What can one possibly add to that? It’s basically self-Fisking.
“Sure, we like our lives and we like the place we live, but why should we stand up for it when it’s attacked? It’s not like it required actual sacrifice or hard work to create it in the first place, nor is it going anywhere. It’s just something that we’re entitled to and will always have.”
The “ME!” generation in a nutshell.
Completely and utterly useless, a total waste of DNA, a bunch of lazy, self-centred cowards that could die off tomorrow and nobody would notice that they were gone. They don’t contribute, all they do is demand.
Worthless.
Durka Durka Update
June 16, 2006
Just in case you missed the excellent Hot Air video update on the whole “Hadji Girl” brouhaha that the terrorist front organization CAIR and their witless and willing accomplices in the MSM are using to hurt our troops, here’s the link. No excuse now, so hop to it.
I, like Michelle, have [fifteen-sentence string of expletives deleted -- Emp.M] HAD it with those weasels sliming, attacking and undermining our soldiers, airmen and sailors in every which way they can think of. None of those maggots are worthy of licking the dirt-encrusted boots of the lowliest recruits of Camp Whatchamacallit and, more importantly, none of them would have the freedom to be the base, filthy, backstabbing assholes that they enjoy so much if it weren’t for our men and women of the Armed Forces.
What I hate even more is that it looks like some of the desk-jockeying shitbirds among the brass are beginning to cave to this nonsense, trying to figure out a way of punishing CPL Belile for hurting the feelings of CAIR.
Time to let them know that we won’t sit still for that. Let them know how much we love and support our troops and that we’re not going to let CAIR re-write the UCMJ.

P.S.: How about telling CAIR to clean up their own hadji-supporting, hate-spewing, anti-American shithouse FIRST?
TruthOut(TheWindow).org “Stands Down”
June 16, 2006
Greetings. You may wonder what on Earth is going on here (at least you might if you ever bother to check bylines), so allow us to inform you:
This website has been assimilated into the Glorious Empire of His Darkness, Darth Misha I. All resistance is futile. Do not pay attention to the Stormtroopers behind the curtains. Don’t antagonize them either. They have itchy trigger fingers and notoriously bad aim. Regular Sith Indoctrination Programming will resume shortly, meaning “as soon as the incompetent boobs in the A/V department get their act together”, which may or may not be this century.
Seriously, though. We’ve been asked to pick up the slack for the kind ladies normally running this site while they’re busy doing other things, and who can say “no” to them? Not us, that’s for sure.
So what better than to point fingers and laugh at the idiots at TruthOut.org who have finally, after having assured us for a month that Karl Rove had already been indicted on May 12th, decided that maybe they didn’t merely get out “in front” of the news cycle (of violence?), they also managed to get themselves run over by it and are now little more than whimpering roadkill, twitching in the throes of agony prior to breathing their last.
Yesterday, most Mainstream Media organizations published reports about a letter supposedly received by Karl Rove’s attorney Robert Luskin.
What tipped the journalistic eagles at TruthOut.org off to this was the fact that Mr. Luskin was the one stating to the press what was in the letter that he’d received. Undoubtedly there is a more sinister explanation (involving Halliburton, we’re sure), but we’re all going to have to wait for the real explanation until they can wake Jason Leopold up from his drunken stupor.
As an example of the supposed letter’s contents, TIME Magazine stated that, “Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald said or wrote, ‘Absent any unexpected developments, he does not anticipate seeking any criminal charges against Rove.’”
So far, Mr. Fitzgerald hasn’t denied any of this, but that’s most likely because he’s locked up in a sound-proofed room in the basement of Karl Rove’s dark fortress.
Truthout of course published an article on May 13 which reported that Karl Rove had in fact already been indicted.
The day before, no less, which undoubtedly came as a huge surprise to Mr. Rove. Why doesn’t anybody ever tell him anything?
Obviously there is a major contradiction between our version of the story and what was reported yesterday.
Other than the fact that not only had Karl Rove not been indicted on May 12, he’s not ever going to be? Don’t be so hard on yourselves.
In that Mr. Luskin has chosen the commercial press as his oracle - and they have accepted - we call upon those publications to make known the contents of the communiqué which Luskin holds at the center of his assertions.
Why? Can’t you just ask one of Jason Leopold’s unimpeachable, high level, Sooper Sekrit Sources? Or did he forget his little black book at the Rainbow Club last week?
Quoting only those snippets that Mr. Luskin chooses to characterize in his statements is not enough. If Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald has chosen to exonerate Mr. Rove, let his words - in their entirety - be made public.
Hey, here’s another brilliant idea from somebody who isn’t nearly the journalistic wonderboy that Jason Leopold obviously is: How about calling Mr. Fitzgerald and asking him if he has any comments on the veracity of Mr. Luskin’s statement?
You can send us the check later. No, we don’t offer consulting services for free.
Mr. Leopold did not act alone in his reporting of this matter. His work, sources and conclusions were reviewed carefully at each step of the process. There is no indication that Mr. Leopold acted unethically.
Unless, of course, you consider slandering and libeling somebody in public just to get a “scoop” unethical, of course, which liberal “news” outlets never did. But it’s awfully big of you to come out and admit that you’re all responsible for this screwup, not just Jason Leopold.
Please keep in mind that over the years we have reported on many examples of individuals being scapegoated in crisis situations by superiors seeking cover from controversy. Truthout, however, does not do scapegoats.
Unless they happen to be named “Karl Rove”, of course.
And we stand firmly behind Jason Leopold.
Way, way behind him, should the proverbial shit really hit the fan. Of that we’re sure.
As journalists, nothing is more critical to being able to report guarded facts than the guarantee of confidentiality we provide to our sources.
Particularly when the guarded facts in question aren’t, well, facts.
Truthout has never compromised the identy of a confidential source. We will protect our sources on this story, as we have on every other story we have ever published.
Probably a good idea at this point. Citing the voices in Jason’s head as sources wouldn’t do much to salvage whatever reputation you might have left.
Expect a more comprehensive accounting of this matter on Monday, June 19.

Marine Captain - A Political Casualty Of Haditha
June 1, 2006
More unanswered questions arise from the following statement of one of the Marine Corps officers in Haditha: Cpt. James Kimber, who was nominated for a Bronze Star for valor in Haditha. [in bold]
Kimber, 33, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., was one of three officers reassigned to new duties last month for what the Marines said was “a lack of confidence in their leadership abilities.” None of the three officers has been charged with wrongdoing.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the 24 killings Nov. 19 were criminal, and whether the Marines involved and their commanding officers tried to hide the truth.
Kimber said he first learned about the shootings in February when he heard that a Time magazine reporter was asking questions about civilian deaths.
Kimber said he heard nothing about a civilian massacre during city council meetings and talks with local leaders.
“It would have been huge, there would have been no question it would have filtered down to us,” he said. “We reported no significant atmospheric change as a result of that day.” Kimber said he was removed because senior commanders at California’s Camp Pendleton were scrambling to defuse an explosive situation.
No change? After such a “horrific”, “ghastly” display of “rampaging, bloodthirsty Marines”??! Hmmm. That makes me think that what the media is so gleefully calling a “horrific massacre” wasn’t even a blip until February. Is the media “creating the news”…or are they being manipulated by media-savvy terrorists (think Pallywood, people)?Â
Come to think of it, one of the wounded Marines who survived that day, LCPL Cassan, hadn’t heard of it either until it broke in the news. Hmmm.
Â

UPDATE: Damn. Now it is being reported [via anonymous sources, of course] that Cpt. Kimber WILL be charged. With so many conflicting reports about this story, I wish the media would back off and let the military figure this thing out!! Nothing can be served by destroying these guys in the court of public opinion before any investigation is completed.
Jesse MacBeth’s Fraudulent DD214
May 26, 2006
Allahpundit at HotAir has been following the multitudinous lies uttered by Jesse MacBeth, the self-annointed “Iraqi War Veteran/Airborne Ranger Special Forces Veteran” against the war. Reminiscent of the Winter Soldiers of John Kerry’s ilk, he has been claiming he commited outrageous atrocities (self-confessed war crimes) during his tour(s) in Iraq. Personally, I’ve been ignoring him like the vermin he is, because I’ve had bigger fish to fry. Now I’ve had a chance to see some of his documents for myself, which only confirm what my nose knew all along - this guy is nothing but a piece of shit. Bottom line, he’s a pencil-necked moron, but he’s also (again, like John Kerry) a BIG, FAT, FRAUD!
Allahpundit posted a copy of his DD214 and then milbloggers began pouring out their analysis of the obviously forged document. See here for the first round-up of facts and opinion. I couldn’t resist airing out some of my rusty ole Adjutant General skills from way back in the day…so I took a peek at it msyelf and sent Allah my observations earlier this afternoon:
Item 8.a. Unit listed is a basic training unit.
Item 11. FORGED - Wrong type (needs to be all caps), misspelled, the MOS is listed incorrectly, dates listed incorrectly, missing standard //NOTHING FOLLOWS (to inhibit tampering)
Item 13. FORGED - Wrong type (needs to be all caps), missing standard //NOTHING FOLLOWS. Purple heart would never be followed with a description “Shot during active service”. Beyond that, the word “shot” is not standard military vernacular - it’s a civilian word.
Item 14. This area would definitely list any specialized training he attended and dates (Airborne School, Ranger School, Q course for SF). This block appears to be filled out correctly, as it contains the standard //NOTHING FOLLOWS. This indicates he did not receive ANY special training whatsoever.
***Item 18. Last sentence before //NOTHING FOLLOWS says, “MEMBER HAS NOT COMPLETED FIRST FULL TERM OF SERVICE.”
There ya go. Mystery solved.
The rest is overkill…
Item 21: Unsigned
Item 23: Type of Separation is scratched out.
Item 24: “Uncharacterized” - this would be if he didn’t serve long enough to receive an honorable or dishonorable discharge.
Item 25: Separation authority: AR 635-200, the rest of the chapter and paragraph are scratched out. The chapter and paragraph would indicate WHY he was discharged.
Item 26: Separation Code - looks like “JGA” - that’s an entry level separation.
Item 27: Rentry Code - 3_ The designating letter is scratched out. However, if he was eligible for renlistment his code would be “1″ or “1A”. The fact that it is a three indicates circumstances unfavorable to reenlistment. In other words, he was ineligible to reenlist.
Item 28: This would provide one sentence explaining the WHY of separation from service. Again, it’s been scratched out.
Hope that helps. In my opinion, the DD214 definitely has been doctored - I have NO DOUBT about that. NONE. ZERO.
Item 18 answers all questions - he never completed his first term of service. All the rest of his claims are absolute bogus.
There is a way to settle this question once and for all. Submit a Form 180 to the National Archives. You can go in person to the NA in downtown DC, or you can fill out the form online and mail it in. I don’t recommend this second alternative because it can take weeks or months to get a response. But military records are part of the public record. A Form 180 (which John Kerry has never signed to produce his questionable records…OK, he signed, but never submitted the form to the NA, duh) will get a copy of MacBeth’s original DD214 and more. This would be fun to have because forging a DD214 is a crime and a feisty lawyer could make a name for him or herself by bringing suit against MacBeth.
Here’s the DD214.
And here’s the scrawny POS in his fake beret with the fake badge and the facial hair and the totally wrong uniform:

See what I mean about a pencil-neck? This is the guy who claims to be an Airborne Ranger Special Forces specialist.
Breaking News: Shots Fired At Capitol = CONSTRUCTION???
May 26, 2006
FINAL UPDATE: Did we need more proof that the lawmakers in Washington live in a rarified bubble? How did they mistake “construction sounds” for 6-10 gunshots? Geez.
OR
*conspiracy theory coming up*
Are the proletariat masses being fed a cover story to… ummm…cover up something…?
Via Gribbit Online:
FoxNews is reporting that shots have been fired at the Rayburn House Office Building. The House is not in session and the Rayburn Building is on lockdown as Capital Police, DC Special Ops, and the FBI Terrorism Taskforce search for a gunman and/or victims of the shooting. Details are still sketchy at this time…
UPDATE via Gribbit: At around 10:50 am this morning, FoxNews had breaking news that shots had been fired at the Rayburn House Office Building. Reports are that gun shots were heard being fired in a garage level of the building and upon investigation gun powder was noticed in the air.
Capital Police immediately put the building on lockdown as they began to search for a gunman or victims of the shots. Announcement ordering all occupants of the building to remain where they were and move to an interior office and stay away from windows. Staffers were advised to keep their “go kits†handy.
There are also reports that a Washington DC Police Special Operations van was on scene and the AP is reporting that 4 ambulances have arrived at the Rayburn Building. FoxNews is also reporting that the FBI Terrorism Taskforce is also at the Rayburn Building.
This story is developing…
UPDATE 2: Someone on Rep. Jack Kingston’s (R-GA) staff is live-blogging.
UPDATE 3: There’s talk of two women who report seeing a white man, about 5′10″ and 175 lbs., who was hiding out in the Rayburn gym with a gun.
UPDATE 4 via HotAir: Major Garrett says not only are they not letting people out of the Rayburn building cafeteria, they’re bringing people in — including a pregnant woman. Meanwhile, the latest police news conference reports no suspects or arrests. But the search continues.
UPDATE 5 via Ogre: There is a shooting range in the parking garage area where the report came from. There is a report of a man with a gun. And, according to police, “the search and massive police deployment was triggered by a single telephone call from an unidentified individual.”
Homeland Insecurity And The National Insecurity Agency
May 12, 2006
I’ve got to get out of here, but I can’t leave before pointing you guys to some additional reading:
Michelle Malkin is covering Homeland Insecurity’s efforts to dodge, spin, deny and generally f*** up their cover story about WHY Border Patrol was snitching on the Minutemen to a hostile foreign government:
The Department of Homeland Security is working overtime to quell citizen outrage over the Border Patrol/Mexico/Minutemen story. The contradictory spin doctors are not doing a very good job…
Supervisors in Washington and in major Border Patrol sectors are cowed by ethnic activists, business lobbyists, and meddling Mexican consulates. Field agents are demoralized by top-down efforts–from the White House on down–to undermine their law enforcement duties.
Most news consumers–and politicians and Washington wags–have extremely short-term memories. But people on the ground fighting this battle every day, and those covering it, don’t.
I remind you of the jaw-dropping directive issued in August 2003 by then-San Diego Border Patrol Chief William Veal directing local Border Patrol agents to ignore suspected illegal aliens on city streets and at worksites in San Diego…
Guess who complained enough to get that stupid directive issued??? Even though you probably already guessed, go read about it.
Malkin has got more about the NSA counter-terrorism leak fiasco (why aren’t people being fired right and left over there, fer pete’s sake???!). She’s got the subject pretty well covered so that I don’t have to. :D Good thing, eh, since I don’t have time today.
I’m out. For real this time.
HELP! Bloggers Imprisoned in Egypt
May 9, 2006
I got this shocking letter from our friend, Kender:
Dear WideAwakes, my friend “Sam Adams” at the Sandmonkey, an Egyptian blogger and one of the good guys, is in Egypt with disturbing news.
Please, I dont ask you guys anything with urgency ever, but this is beyond important. Several bloggers in Egypt have been arrested and are being held, and Sam is possibly in danger of being arrested himself, and this information needs to be dissiminated as widely as possible.
What follows is the email I have recieved from Sam……how can we spread the word?
As you may have heard by now, Egyptian Blogger Alaa Abdel Fatah has been arrested alongside 10 others while demonstrating in support of the independence of the Judiciary in Egypt and the release of previous demonstrators who were detained 2 weeks earlier. The Police entrapped them, cordoning off their peaceful protest and then proceeded to handpick the demonstrators that they wanted to detain, beat them, and then arrested them.
Alaa and those arrested with him are now arrested for 15 days “pending investigation” , which could be renewed indefinitely if the state so wishes. He and the men were sent to the infamous Torah Prison and the girls to the Qanatir prison for the duration. This makes them hardly safe, because stuff that goes on in Egyptian prisons on the hands of the jailors: beatings, sexual assaults, torture of all kinds.
Currently there are about 48 detained, 6 of them are bloggers, and 3 of them are women. The best known is Alaa, which makes him the posterboy of this campaign - but getting them out is equally as important. Egypt has fewer than 830 bloggers all in all, 60 of whom are political and less than 30 are politically active. Now 6 of those are in jail - 20% of all politically active Egyptian bloggers - and amongst them one of Egypt’s most highly profiled one.
This is by no means a co-incidence. Government agents handpicked people to arrest from amongst the protesters. They have been wanting to get Alaa for a long time now, precisely because he is high profile, and because he helps organizes the protests and spread the information through the blog aggregator he runs (http://www.manalaa.net/). With Alaa gone, Aggregator could shut down without his maintenance and other bloggers could get too scared to be active and find no way to organize or reach one other. It’s of vital importance that he gets released ASAP.
Alaa is a secular democracy activist, and a tireless advocate of freedom, free speech and human rights. He organizes demonstrations and engages in protests against all kinds of injustices in Egypt and is the winner of the international Best of the Blogs award from Reporters Without Borders last December.
Alaa was arrested while protesting to support Egypt’s Judges fight for independence. 2 weeks earlier he had organized a “National Unity” protest to show solidarity with Egypt’s Christians who suffered a sectarian attack on 3 churches on Good Friday. Before that he was one of the few voices that urged calm and peaceful dialogue while the cartoon crisis was hitting its peak. He is a desperately needed voice of moderation and democracy in Egypt, and one of the few flickers of hope in a country whose future seems mire between the crushing rule of the regime and the fanaticism of the Islamist opposition.
And now Alaa needs your help. We have started an e-mail campaign to the Egyptian embassies and the US State Department in order to push for his release, and have started protests in front of the Egyptian embassy and consulates in the US for his release. We will also hold protests in France, Italy and Gemany. We could use your help in getting the word out and sending them an e-mail demanding his release.
Addresses for the Egyptian embassies in the US and Canada are available here, templates for e-mails to be sent to the embassies here, and the contact information for the person to e-mail in the US state department is here. If you are a journalist or know one, help us spread the word by writing about this or demanding your local newspaper write about this. If you have a blog or a website and would like to raise awareness about this issue, banners for the Free Alaa campaign can be found here and here. We could use any help we can get, so if you have any ideas or ways to help us, please do.
All the best,
The Sandmonkey

UPDATE: Andrea Clark Is Gone
May 8, 2006
After the last very positive update I posted, I have bad news…Melanie Childers sent Freedom Watch an email regarding her sister Andrea Clarke who passed yesterday at approximately 3:00 P.M.(CST). See our previous coverage of Melanie’s plea for her sister’s life.
Andrea passed away peacefully a little before 3pm today, with her family and her friends at her bedside. We love her so very much and we are going to miss her terribly. We hope that the battle that we fought for our sister will bring to light and bear witness to the horrible acts committed in the name of ethics in hospitals across the state of Texas.
The fact that we had to fight this battle is both frightening and a sad commentary on the so-called “ethics” now being practiced in medical facilities in this state. The battle for life is a difficult one, in the best of situations, but when a family is put through what we had to go through at such a time, it is especially agonizing.
We wish so much that we could have spent more time at our sister’s side, when she was living and fighting for her life, rather than having to visit our attorney’s office, give interviews to radio and television stations to let the public know of the atrocity about to befall Andrea, and literally stand outside the hospital and beg them not to kill our sister. In attempting to deprive Andrea of the most basic of her human rights–life–St. Luke’s Hospital managed to deprive her family and her of that which is most dear to us all, when we are faced with the death of a loved one: a proper goodbye.
How, in the name of God, anyone can call putting someone to death when they are at their most helpless and begging for their lives “ethical,” we cannot imagine.
Melanie Childers
Rest in peace, Andrea. You were well-loved by your family and friends and you will be well-remembered by many more.
PS: The language Melanie uses here in her letter could just as easily apply to the most helpless victims of all - unborn babies. The irony of her outrage is not lost on me.
