Media Matter’s Alter Ego?

October 31, 2007

One Media Matters-like organization is already too many. It appears as though there’s another liberal apologist blog out there. Their name is News Hounds. The post that caught my attention dealt with last weekend’s interview of Justin and Darryl Sharraltt on Hannity’s America. To say that their post didn’t attempt to refute Justin’s story is understatement. In fact, they jump right into criticizing Mr. Hannity:

Last night’s (October 27th) Hannity’s America was a strange magazine format which combined stories about mediums and haunted houses with a lead off interview that was billed as “The Truth About Haditha.” Hannity is a college drop out with no professional journalism credentials and this lack of professional journalistic acumen was well reflected in Hannity’s “leading questions” which served a political agenda. (Comment: Although Fox’s Chris Wallace can be partisan, he looks like Cronkite compared to Sean Hannity!)

Hannity billed his interview with Lance Corporal Justin Sharratt, his lawyer, and his father as “exclusive.” He began by noting that this interview would be a response to Congressman John Murtha and military officials who are “trying to paint the story with a different brush.” Before the interview began, Hannity set up the Fox/right wing premise by asking the not so rhetorical question “have politics gotten in the way of patriotism?” Without doing an overview of the Haditha story, he asked Sharratt to explain what happened on that fateful day. Hannity asked Sharratt if he saw any of his fellow Marines doing anything that they weren’t supposed to do. Not surprisingly, Sharratt said that he didn’t. Hannity mentioned the article in Time Magazine which reported that the Haditha civilians claimed they were attacked by the Marines. Hannity asked Sharratt why Time would report that and Sharratt said he didn’t know.

You’ll notice that Newshounds doesn’t mention Capt. Jeffrey Dinsmore’s sworn testimony. I posted about Capt. Dinsmore’s testimony in a post titled A Timline Emerges back in July. Here’s what I posted then:

As previously reported by NewsMax, the battalion S2 officer made a full and complete report based on his monitoring of the day’s events and the intelligence he and others had amassed then and previous days. As we wrote at the time, the PowerPoint after-action report he sent up the command ladder proved to all the higher officers that the incident warranted no further investigation.

I also mentioned these important details that should’ve been included in NewsHounds’s post: [Read more]

This story is being posted all over the internet. I’ve received it twice in email tonight so far. It’s completely believable, because we know what groups like this are capable of. That being said, this particular story is a hoax.

Look at the URL…headlienews? Riiight.

Flag-Folding Recitation Banned in Cemeteries Nationwide

October 26, 2007

By JOE VARGO
The Press-Enterprise

Through thousands of military burials, Memorial Honor Detail volunteers at Riverside National Cemetery have folded the American flag 13 times and recited the significance of every fold to survivors of those being laid to rest.

The first fold, a narrator tells relatives, represents life, the second a belief in eternal life.

The 11th fold celebrates Jewish war veterans and “glorifies the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”

A single complaint lodged against the words for the 11th fold recently prompted the National Cemetery Administration to ban the entire recital at all 125 national cemeteries.

A spokesman in Washington said the complaint originated from someone who witnessed the ceremony at Riverside National but would provide no other details and declined to release the directive banning the flag-folding recital, saying it was “an internal working document not meant for public distribution.”

Well, I would think so. Liberals really need lives.

If You’re Reading This

October 20, 2007

If you haven’t heard this song, please click play. Now. I can’t stop listening to it, and I can’t stop crying.

If You’re Reading This
Tim McGraw

If you’re reading this
And My mama’s sitting there
Looks like I only got a one-way ticket over here
I sure wish I could give you one more kiss
And war was just a game we played when we were kids
Well I’m laying down my gun
I’m hanging up my boots
I’m up here with God
And we’re both watching over you

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
I’m already home

If you’re reading this
Half way around the world
I won’t be there to see the birth of our little girl
I hope she looks like you
I hope she fights like me
Stands up for the innocent and the weak
I’m laying down my gun
I’m hanging up my boots
Tell dad I don’t regret that I followed in his shoes

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
I’m already home

If you’re reading this
There’s gonna come a day
When you move on and find someone else
And that’s okay
Just remember this
I’m in a better place
Where soldiers live in peace
And angels sing Amazing Grace

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you’re reading this
If you’re reading this
I’m already home

Prepared and Loyal

October 15, 2007

Michael Yon does it again with another tear-jerker update from Iraq. I am so damn proud of these men.

Around the corner, the CSM and I walked up to one of our Valorous Award winners who suffered a severe hip injury in that same attack. The first thing he asked me was if I thought he would be able to recover and get back to his platoon before we redeployed. A few days earlier, two other Cavalry Troopers were in the emergency room being treated. CSM Jones and I walked in together and as we approached our first soldier he yelled out,”Prepared and Loyal, Sir”. His face, arms and legs were speckled with shrapnel but all he could think about was the unit. As the nurse wheeled himout for further examination, he unashamedly told his fellow injured platoonmate that he loved him and he got the same response back. I have seen the toughest men I know cry for one another and encourage each other through some difficult times. Whoever you know in this unit, know that they are heroes. This is a very personal endeavor, indeed.

Immigration Controls Make Baby Jesus Cry?

October 15, 2007

This article literally cracked me up–not just because the lefty preacher is an incurable idiot, but because Mark Tooley is freaking brilliant and I love his sarcasm. While a Methodist minister whines that those of us who want controls put in place to stem the tide of illegals are naughty little racists who aren’t being good Christians, Tooley splits the rock and sanity comes out.

If the experience of ancient Israel is any example, no one should think that the Hebrews routinely permitted large numbers of foreigners to permanently relocate into their land. Most of the sojourners in the Scriptures reference were travelers passing through or nomads looking for temporary nourishment for their livestock. Aliens with plans to remain indefinitely in ancient Israel were expected to live as Jews, worshipping the God of Abraham. The ancient Hebrews, with their stiff punishments for idolaters and pagans, were hardly open-border multiculturalists.

Preach it, brother.

Jerusalem to Be Divided?

October 14, 2007

It disgusts me to see this, but doesn’t surprise me.

…Jerusalem, united under Israeli rule since 1967 with free access for Muslims, Christians, and Jews to all their holy sites (except the Wakf-dominated Temple Mount itself, where access for Christians and Jews is limited), is now again on the chopping block as part of the latest peace push leading up to the Annapolis conference in November.

The Palestinians, as always, say Palestinian rule over East Jerusalem is a bedrock demand and that it has to include the Temple Mount—unarguably the holiest site in Judaism while enjoying a questionable status as the “third holiest site” in Islam. Do not look to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, or her boss President George W. Bush to say in reply:

“Muslims have full control over Mecca, Medina, and many other Islamic shrines, sites, and cities from Morocco to Indonesia. We hardly see it as unacceptable that Muslims should continue to live and worship freely in East Jerusalem under benign, democratic, pluralist Israeli rule.”

Of course Israel should give up more land, right? It’s not like the Muslims don’t control the rest of the Middle East. What a lousy bunch of animalistic ingrates.

By the way, has anyone heard from the kidnapped Israeli soldiers yet? Does anyone even remember their names? For shame, Olmert, you pussy.

They Just Don’t Know Wisconsin Northwoods

October 14, 2007

Little local story for you. I love how Wausau and Milwaukee want to take the state Attorney General to task over the shootings in Crandon.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen last week said law enforcers would not answer questions about the case in the city where it took place, and he relayed a request that Crandon residents ignore reporters asking questions. He then left the podium without taking questions.

A week after the shooting, authorities have released little or no information on autopsy findings, certain 911 calls made during a manhunt and crime-scene evidence. The crime is one state’s biggest homicide cases, and in addition to being a deputy, the shooter was also a part-time officer on the Crandon police force.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said in an editorial Thursday that among the questions left unanswered is whether there was a problem with the police response, and whether psychological screening is needed for police recruits.

“The news media must give the survivors room to grieve in private,” the editorial said. “But they must also do their job — report on a matter of great importance to the state. Unfortunately, Van Hollen has signaled that he may make the media’s job harder.”

I understand this. I’m from that area. My sister and brother-in-law live in Crandon, where Jon is a teacher. The kids who were killed were people he knew well. I know how people are up in the Northwoods. They don’t want the national attention. They don’t want to be interviewed. They want to be left alone, to grieve and come to terms with something that just doesn’t happen there. Shootings happen in Milwaukee and Madison and Eau Claire. Not in Crandon. Not in the pristine Northwoods where the biggest news of the month is probably that the DNR is giving out extra doe tags this year, or how the Blombergs got a new truck and the sawmill is laying off people again.

Leave people alone. If they don’t want the cannibalistic media up their butts, more power to them. I’m sure the big-city papers can find something else to report on.

Miller = Queer Beer

October 14, 2007

This column is reason #4,762 why I have an intellectual crush on Vox Day. That, and he’s cute.

“Choose this day whom you will serve,” Joshua once asked the people of Israel. The Miller Brewing Company, when asked to make a similar decision, preferred to serve alcohol to catamites instead of Catholics, as evidenced by their decision to sponsor the Folsom Street Fair in Sodom-by-the-Bay last week. It is, of course, perfectly legal for Miller to wave their Genuine Draft banner proudly over the scenes of bald men in leather whipping the bare bottoms of other bald men in leather; it seems Miller is determined to identify its product with a short-lived, disease-ridden, non-propagating minority who represent at most two percent of the population.

The paragraph above is also Reason #459 why I drink Budweiser. Well, that and Miller tastes like what I assume the north end of a southbound dog would resemble.

No More Mom and Dad in School

October 14, 2007

If this isn’t disgusting, I don’t know what is. And one more thing–if anyone is out there still calling The Governator a freaking conservative, they need their head examined.

CCF noted that now on a banned list will be any text, reference or teaching aid that portrays marriage as only between a man and woman, materials that say people are born male or female (and not in between), sources that fail to include a variety of transsexual, bisexual and homosexual historical figures, and sex education materials that fail to offer the option of sex changes.

Further, homecoming kings now can be either male or female – as can homecoming queens, and students, whether male or female, must be allowed to use the restroom and locker room corresponding to the sex with which they choose to identify.

AB394 promotes the same issues through state-funded publications, postings, curricula and handouts to students, parents and teachers.

It also creates the circumstances where a parent who says marriage is only for a man and a woman in the presence of a lesbian teacher could be convicted of “harassment,” and a student who believes people are born either male or female could be reported as a “harasser” by a male teacher who wears women’s clothes, CCF said.

Thomasson said Schwarzenegger also signed AB14, which prohibits state funding for any program that does not support a range of alternative sexual practices, including state-funded social services run by churches.

Gathering of Eagles Hacked

October 14, 2007

As many of you may already know, the Gathering of Eagles website was hacked and taken down by a Denial of Service attack two days ago. Thankfully, our hosting company (HostGator–highly recommended) was quite personable and worked with us over several hours to rectify the problem. Total downtime was only about 12 hours, with no harm done.

While the question of “Who would do such a thing?” is as stupid as the answer is obvious, allow me to give you a hint. The attacks came only hours after we posted the juicy tidbit that Adam Kokesh, idiot extraordinaire and head of Iraq Veterans Against the War, made public threats against Chris Hill, GOE’s National Director of Operations. Titled “Heaven Help This Guy If I Run Into Him On The Street,” the post could have been written by an 8-year-old, filled with not only a litany of stupidity but outright lies about the scuffle between Eagles and nutjob-turned-Gold Star Father Carlos Arredondo. Let’s not forget that Carlos, upon being told his Marine son had willingly sacrificed himself for his nation, promptly attempted to set himself on fire inside the Marine Corps van outside his home.

[Side note: It really chaps my butt when idiots like Cindy Sheehan and Carlos Arredondo use the willing and noble sacrifice their sons make in order to gain political points with the communists trying to destroy our nation. It chaps my butt even more when the Communists use already emotionally unstable wackos like these two to further their agenda. "What, Carlos? You want to drag a coffin with an upside-down flag and your son's photo down the street like a Red Rider wagon? Of course! In fact, your press conference is at 3. Go see the makeup guy, dear. And it's okay if you act crazy. That's good press."]

How do I know Kokesh is lying? I was there, remember? I know better than most what happened that day. But Kokesh is less concerned with facts than whipping up the peaceniks into a righteous frenzy. Because, of course, God knows they support the troops and love Gold Star families. In fact, let’s not forget that the antiwar movement loves the troops so much they gave $600,000 in cash and medical supplies to them. Oh, wait. That was actually aid to the terrorists we’re fighting. Oops. Well, they gathered in D.C. by the thousands to honor the sacrifices of those Gold Star families by reading the names of the fallen…oh, wait. No they didn’t. They used the names of the fallen as props for a “die-in” that resulted in almost 200 arrests while some of the parents of those heroes watched in agony and rage that their sons’ names were being trashed by the very people they died for.

And then people wonder why conservatives can’t stand liberals.

Weapons of Missing Soldiers Found

October 14, 2007

Good news on the missing soldiers in Iraq:

Weapons that once belonged to a missing Soldier and two others who were killed in action were recovered outside of an Iraqi’s house in Fetoah Village, Iraq Oct. 9.

Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) out of Fort Drum, N.Y., followed Concerned Local Citizens to the cache site just seven miles north of where 2nd BCT Soldiers of the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment were killed and kidnapped May 12.

The cache consisted of 28 blasting caps in their original packaging, 50 pounds of home made explosives, three 60mm mortar rounds, an AK-47 and matching rigged pouch, two U.S. M-4s (one with a M-203 grenade launcher attached), a single M-203 and a M-249 squad automatic weapon.

After finding the M-4s and the M-203, analysts checked each of the serial numbers to identify to whom they belonged.

The M-249 belonged to Spc. Alex Jimenez Jr., who was abducted by terrorists after his position was attacked May 12 in Qarghulli Village.

Currently, Jimenez and Pvt. Byron Fouty are classified as missing-captured.

One of the M-4s with the M-203 attached to it belonged to Sgt. Anthony Schoeber, who was killed in the same attack.

Another M-4 belonged to Pfc. Joseph Anzack Jr., a Soldier who was classified as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown for 11 days after the May 12 attack until he was found dead near the Euphrates River.

The Soldiers’ identification cards and wallets were found in an al-Qaeda safe house in Samara, Iraq, in Multi-National Division -North’s area of operations, but these weapons are the first piece of physical evidence in the 2nd BCT’s area of operations.

During the search, Soldiers also discovered a man-made hide site near the house that the weapons were discovered.

During this latest search, nine locals who were in the area were detained and are being held for questioning.

The weapons that were found will be turned over to the Criminal Investigations Department for fingerprints and DNA samples.

2 BCT Soldiers will continue to patrol the area of operations in search of more evidence that can lead them to the missing Soldiers or the attackers.

This find comes only weeks before the 2nd BCT will be replaced by the 3rd BCT, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Ky., who will continue the search for the missing Soldiers and their attackers.
