No Bias Here, So Move Along

November 30, 2005

The AP flubbed a story about Samuel Alito. Again.

The first sentence in the article begins:

As a young government lawyer opposed to abortion rights…

As Paul of Wizbang says,

WOW- He opposes people’s rights. Forgetting for a second the word abortion doesn’t appear anywhere in the Constitution, can the AP be any more biased that this?

That reads more like a blog than a news story. How about:

As a young government lawyer opposed to killing babies, Samuel Alito…

Or even:

As a young government lawyer opposed to abortion, Samuel Alito…

Come on AP… At least go thru the motions.

Is there anyone out there who actually thinks the media isn’t biased? Good grief. They’re not even trying anymore.

Joe Lieberman’s Editorial

November 30, 2005

I heard Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) on the Hannity Show today, discussing his editorial that was published in WaPo. I was in the car and couldn’t look it up until now, and thank goodness I didn’t have to search far - GM’s Corner already had it posted, with some interesting commentary:

Our Troops Must Stay

America can’t abandon 27 million Iraqis to 10,000 terrorists.

BY JOE LIEBERMAN
Tuesday, November 29, 2005 12:01 a.m. EST

Read it and see if you can recognize a man who has put the security of our country and that of the fledgling democracy of Iraq AHEAD of dirty politics. The man has principles, and is not ashamed to stand by them. I know, it’s a rare thing, so enjoy its beauty while you can.

Sheehag: “Wahhhh. People Do TOO Like Me.”

November 30, 2005

Sheehag is disputing the photos that have been widely circulated about her bomb of a book-signing last week.

Here’s her take on our “smear campaign”:

[In] a statement today, Sheehan accused “right-wing” sites [*ahem* that's us, ya know] of “spreading a false story that nobody bought my book at Camp Casey on Saturday. That is not true, I sold all 100 copies and got writer’s cramp signing them. [Awwwwww.] Photos were taken of me before the people got in line to have me sign the book. We made $2000 for the peace house.”

Got in line? The whole freakin’ tent was empty for most of the day! No one actually needed to stand in line. Two or three people does not a line make.

In heavy denial, her Koa publishing rep issued this statement:

“…the benefit books signing in Crawford, Texas on November 26, 2005 was well attended and a huge success.”

Alright, he can tell himself that if it helps him feel better about this absolute disaster of a PR tour. Haha

To clarify the wording that accompanied the photo, an AP spokesman commented:

“Photographer Evan Vucci, queried about the incident today said that he was present at the book signing from about 10 a.m. to about 11 a.m. During that time, he said, people were coming in to have their books signed in small groups of a few at a time.

“At the time the photos were taken ‘maybe 5 people had come in,’ Vucci says, and Sheehan was waiting for more to stop by, which they did individually as well as in very small groups. Therefore the wording of the caption is accurate in that Sheehan was waiting for people to show up at her signing.”

AP Photo/Evan Vucci
Caption: Anti-war activist CindySheehan waits for people to show up at her book signing near President Bush’s ranch on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005 in Crawford, Texas.

What I really want to know is how many books each Camp Casey and Code Pink volunteer had to buy to get rid of that huge inventory of ALL ONE HUNDRED books! Whoo.

By the way, have you ever come across someone so disastrously prone to whining in public??

The Wall of Respect

November 29, 2005

Go lend your support to the Wall of Respect. From the website:

This site was inspired and created by the Departments of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in support of the Veterans and Bikers who have started to maintain a vigil of human decency and dignity in an effort to protect the privacy of our Military Families as they attempt to place our heroes to rest in peace.

This site is not against free speech. It is for the right to mourn and bury our loved ones peacefully or privately. This is a right that should be assured to all families, especially to our Military Families out of respect for the sacrifices they’ve made.

If you feel the same way, we invite you to become a brick in the “Wall of Respect” and assist us as we look to build a State Legislative wall between free speech and the right to privacy as it relates to all funerals. Indiana and Oklahoma are exploring the possibilities now and we encourage all states to consider the same.

This, you may remember, is in response to the complete and utter wastes of flesh from godhatesfags.com and godhatesamerica.com, who think it’s their duty to protest the funerals of soldiers who gave their lives in defense of the rights these asswipes live under every day.

It’s about time we did something about this. I’ll tell you this much - next time those pieces of trash are in Oklahoma, you can bet I’ll be there.

Bad Blogs, Burned Bridges, and More

November 29, 2005

The blogosphere is aflurry with the Weblog Awards, the OSM scandal, and the typical interblog chatter and clique drama that seems to never stop. Now on the scene are the Bad Blog Awards, hosted by Beth of MVRWC.

Some of the categories include “Worst email spamming link whore”, “Worst comment link-dropping link whore”, “Most self-worshipping blogger, “Blogger who takes him/herself MUCH too seriously”, and “Blogger who picks the most fights with other bloggers”. There’s more, but those are the main categories.

All due respect to Beth, who I would guess was simply trying to bring some levity to the blogosphere–and apparently a few bloggers got the point and treated it like the joke it apparently was. But for the most part it seems that her idea has been used by some to just air their own personal grievances, insult and demean others, most of whom are on our side of the fence as conservative bloggers.

It’s like this. Would you like to know why we’ll never replace the MSM as America’s primary source of news and commentary? This is why. And this. And this. We can’t seem to act like adults.

It’s one thing to poke harmless fun at ourselves. To turn a joke into a mean-spirited insultfest is just immature.

Maybe I’ll catch flak for “taking myself too seriously”. Well, you know what? I do take blogging seriously. I know Heidi does too. I think we all should. It’s a big responsibility. Sure, it’s fun and sometimes exciting, and sometimes we talk about harmless, amusing topics. But when the guns come out, the bottom line is that we owe more to our readership than rampant immaturity and personal attacks on bloggers that in all actuality are allies. It’s one thing to smack down trolls or take on liberals. But this kind of commenting is contradictory to everything we say we are for. How can we laugh at the libs eating their own over at DU when we’re doing it ourselves? We’re supposed to be the mature ones.

My apologies to Beth, since I’m not trying to “target” her. My complaint isn’t even with her at all. It’s with the bloggers who have such an enlarged sense of self-importance that they’re forgetting we’re all working toward the same goal. Regardless of your feelings on certain blogs, have some class. If you have a problem with them, be an adult and take your issue up with them personally.

MSM reporters have interpersonal conflicts. They have snipe fests and problems and nasty little dramas. But you don’t see them on the front page of the Washington Post, as a rule. The good thing about blogs–the freedom to say what you like, show your own personality, and just ‘have a voice’–is also the bad thing about blogging. We have a responsibility to temper our freedom and voice with something better than “LaShawn Barber [is a] Sanctimonious Bitch.” I’m not saying we should not call a spade a spade. I’m saying when talking about the people who are on our side, working toward the same goals we are, there are better ways to conduct ourselves.

If you want to know why we’ll never have the respect we “deserve”, there’s your answer. When people act like that, we don’t deserve it.

The Afghanistan Effect

November 29, 2005

Must read from Dafydd, this essay compares why Russia lost Afghanistan with our job in Iraq. It’s not what you think, and it’s extremely well-written. Go see.

Our troops are extolling the virtues of the new Iraqi Army, and how well they fight against the butchers and beheaders. They’ve made tremendous and enduring friendships, the kind that can only be forged in the flames of side-by-side combat.

But against all this, the politicians (even on the Right), the religious and foreign-policy leaders, and academe, all led by the “news” journalists, are insisting that not only is the war a “quagmire” and “unwinnable,” we already lost it.

So you have a choice. Who will you believe — Chris Matthews, John Kerry, and Professor McQuisling… or your own son, brother, husband, sister, cousin, best friend, or next-door neighbor?

More Parental Stupidity

November 28, 2005

A pair of idiots in La Crosse, Wisconsin, decided to breed. Mistake #1.

They had a daughter who was sexually active at age 14. Mistake #2.

They decided to put her on the patch so she wouldn’t get pregnant. Mistake #3.

She died, so they’re suing the drug company that manufactures the patch. Mistake #4.

Whatever happened to being a parent? What kind of crap is this? When I was 14, there was no way I could have had sex, even if I was so inclined. My parents knew without a shadow of a doubt where I was and what I was doing every second of every day when I was that age. Then again, apparently these twits did too - they were just okay with it.

I am reminded of what my friend Eric said once. “Intelligent people have an obligation to procreate so the idiots don’t take over.”

Come on, smart people. Please have more children.

Boycott TIME

November 28, 2005

Freedom Folks have done it again: they’ve done something so good I needed to make it a post over here. (Keep up the great work, guys!)

TIME magazine has smeared the Minutemen
something awful in one of their excuses for a news article. FF is calling for a boycott of TIME, and we’re definitely on board. Here’s my letter to the editor. I bet good money it never makes it anywhere but a round file.

Dear Editor:

I am disgusted by your portrayal of the Minutemen in your online edition. Terry McCarthy apparently wouldn’t know unbiased journalism if it held up a sign, although I’m quite certain Terry’s held up a few signs in protest of one thing or another.

The Minutemen are a non-violent group dedicated to the protection of our borders. They are tired of seeing the illegal immigration problem worsen as liberals and even our President ignore the issue. While people like Terry McCarthy upbraid the Minutemen for doing what our government should already have under control, millions of illegals are pouring through our borders, sapping our resources, sucking the healthcare system dry, and committing crimes with near impunity. Would McCarthy prefer that his taxes be hiked even more to continue to care for people with no intention of even abiding by our laws, let alone pledging allegiance to our flag?

TIME magazine has sunk to yet another new low. Every few months you seem to redefine the line between where truth resides and where your writers and editors are. At least you’re consistent.

I will not be reading your magazine again, and I will be encouraging my readership to boycott TIME as well.

Sincerely,

Kit Jarrell
Euphoric Reality

Get on board! Let TIME know that their portrayal of the Minutemen is wrong. Email the editor and tell him what you think. Post your letter in the comments. (And tell Freedom Folks to get trackbacks while you’re over there looking at their awesome site!)

Drop Zone: Outrage Edition

November 28, 2005

It’s still a Drop Zone, and trackbacks are still welcome. They may not count for TTLB anymore, but then again, it’s still free publicity for your posts. So chin up, campers. ;) Besides, as you saw yesterday, we do pull the good trackbacks up into posts of their own. So write good stuff, and we’ll go ahead and give you a real link. Now on to the important things.

This is the Outrage Edition of Drop Zone. I’ve found a whole list of things going on that should really piss you off.

Republican Duke Cunningham has resigned from the House of Representatives after doing what liberals think every Republican does: take bribes in return for help getting Defense contracts. Nice one, idiot. Thanks for setting us back a few years. Of course, as of 1809 CST that was the top story at Reuters. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Let’s move on.

The EU now says that “if” the rumors about CIA jails are true, all countries that hosted one will face “serious consequences, including the suspension of the right to vote in the Council.” This is weeniehood at its best. People wonder why no one can find Osama bin Laden. Well, if you could sit in a cave and hold the balls of every European leader in the EU, would you come out? Don’t answer that.

Here’s perhaps the most disturbing of all:

Fifty babies a year live through an abortion in the UK.

[The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists'] guidelines say that babies aborted after more than 21 weeks and six days of gestation should have their hearts stopped by an injection of potassium chloride before being delivered. In practice, few doctors are willing or able to perform the delicate procedure.

For the abortion of younger foetuses, labour is induced by drugs in the expectation that the infant will not survive the birth process. Guidelines say that doctors should ensure that the drugs they use prevent such babies being alive at birth. [emphasis mine]

Tell me again that abortion is not murder. This is disgusting.

Bush did a not-so-bright thing today.

At Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Bush portrayed his proposed temporary worker program — which many Republicans say rewards lawbreakers and provides “backdoor amnesty” — as a way to relieve pressure on enforcement by bringing illegal immigrants “out of the shadows.”

“There’s a lot of opinions on this proposal. I understand that,” Bush said. “The program that I proposed would not create an automatic path to citizenship. It wouldn’t provide amnesty. I opposed amnesty.”

But the United States, he said, had always been “a compassionate nation that values the newcomer” and “the American people should not have to choose between a welcoming society and a legal society.”[ emphasis mine]

First of all, he has some serious cojones saying that at an Air Force base. Secondly, I don’t MIND choosing between a welcoming society and a legal one. Screw welcoming. Let’s go with legal. Anything less that total and utter control of our borders is irresponsible, inexcusable, and incomprehensible. Yes, I’ve just used my in- word quota.

The warpath is full of liberals, and they’re all hunting Alito’s head. They’ve got his letters now. Watch for scandals!

Saddam is still a dick. Not just a dick, but an unrepentant, in-need-of-death dick. This trial sounds almost like Lance Ito’s courtroom (remember him?).

Monday’s court session began with Saddam displaying the same defiance he showed at the opening of the trial on October 19, when proceedings were adjourned for 40 days.

Saddam, dressed in a white shirt, dark jacket and carrying a Koran, arrived late and then upbraided the judge when asked why.

“They brought me here to the door and I was handcuffed. They cannot bring in the defendant in handcuffs,” Saddam rejoined.

Amin ordered the former president and his co-defendants to be unshackled by their guards before they entered the courtroom.

Saddam complained he had had to walk up four flights of stairs because of a broken elevator in the courthouse.

“I will tell the police about this,” Amin told him in the cool, polite tone he maintained during several tirades by the former president on the first day of the trial.

“I don’t want you to tell them, I want you to order them,” Saddam replied hotly. “They are invaders and occupiers and you have to order them.”

You know, if you shoot them in the face, they can’t talk anymore.

Naked Commandos: UK Royal Marines Hazing Video (Not Safe For Work)

November 28, 2005

OK, this is pretty funny stuff. Or not, depending on your viewpoint of the obscure rituals of elite commandos. I know, I know - normally a video of a bunch of nekkid elite warriors would be a beautiful thing to watch, but this is a hazing event that is currently being investigated in the UK. This whole ordeal is capped by the dude in a wig and a schoolgirl’s skirt and the NCO in surgeon’s scrubs which is just plain weird, but the rest of the marine commandos are nekkid, so don’t try playing this video at work.

The article from News of the World is gleefully dramatic, citing “shocking rituals”, “chilling secret initiation ordeals”, “rules of cruelty”, “covert filming”, and *gasp!* even “torture”. It’s all very high-drama.

The violent initiation ceremony he filmed took place in May at Bickleigh Barracks, near Plymouth, home to the elite 42 Commando.

“They call them Joining Runs—or Sprog Olympics—because sprog is slang for baby and these were new recruits,” said the marine.

“12 of them were taken to a barbecue on the top field with about 40 other marines watching.

“Their superior was getting them to do stranger and stranger things, while getting them p***** and picking on any who didn’t do what he wanted.

“He was getting more and more menacing, swearing and threatening. He ordered them to take their clothes off and run round the field giving each other naked piggy backs.

“Then the fighting started. The bloke disappeared and came back with the surgeon’s outfit, mask and cap on and things really turned nasty when he ordered them to start laying into each other. You can see it on their faces in the film that they’re scared.”

Naked fellow marines surrounding them can be heard baying for blood as the man in the surgeon’s outfit and another in a St Trinian’s uniform, complete with wig and short skirt, supervise the cruel contest.

Here’s the video. WARNING: Violence and Nudity.

*ahem* I guess this gives a whole new meaning to the term “going commando”. Heh

“The End Of America”: Must-See TV?

November 28, 2005

A new theme in Follywood seems to be the destruction of America. They are setting up the ‘06 season with what is loquaciously called a “bevy of brave ideas and bold format experiences”.

ABC alone has at least two would-be shows set in post-apocalyptic America (”Resistance” and “Red & Blue”) while Gavin Polone and Bruce Wagner are teaming for the comfy-sounding plague drama “Four Horsemen” at CBS (which also is developing “Jericho,” about life in a small town after America is destroyed).

Drudge is still developing the story, but I was wondering what y’all thought about this. Part of me thinks that it could be a very interesting scenario, depending on how they depict the demise of America. Is it from internal political rot and division? Does the “Religion of Peace” conquer America through clever use of our dhimmis? Or is it Red China or North Korea? Would Follywood depict America’s demise as justified and necessary - or worse, inevitable? Ick - that seems like something Follywood would do, but no one could stomach that.

I wonder if it would behoove us to see a creative rendition of how much worse life would be if America were destroyed and no longer a global superpower. Which evil villains would step in to fill the gap after the benign watch of America ends?

Hmmm. Comments, anyone?

Guard the Borders Blogburst!

November 28, 2005

Freedom Folks left an awesome story in our trackbacks over the weekend that is worth checking out. I decided to make it the focus of this week’s Guard the Borders.

Right now, if an illegal immigrant makes it across the border in time to have a baby, that child is automatically a U.S. citizen according to current law. Never mind that it’s completely against the point of the original Constitutional amendment. We’re dealing with “living documents” and all that, right moonbats? Freedom Folks explains.

This language was added to the constitution after the Civil War to provide protection against blacks being denied their rights as newly recognized citizens. The widespread abuse of this misinterpretation is a crime we have allowed to go on for far too long. It should never have been interpreted as an invitation to sneak into the country to give birth as a way of circumventing the process of legally attaining citizenship.

Apparently someone in Congress finally woke up and smelled the day laborers. Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) is sponsoring a bill that would deny citizenship to babies born to illegal immigrants in the U.S. Well, God bless that man. May his tribes increase (especially if they end up being productive members of society).

Of course, something as ‘radical’ as limiting citizenship to actual Americans who have chosen to give their allegiance to the United States of America couldn’t go without being panned by the pro-immigrant lobby.

“It would be just wrong for us to deny such a basic right to just this population,” said Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, or CHIRLA.

By “this population”, I’m assuming they mean people who get one foot over the border and then plop out a baby, to be raised and supported by the federal and state government at the expense of taxpayers who have this little thing called a job. Sorry, no sympathy here.

“It goes against a tradition of really integrating immigrants into our society in order to unify us as a nation, and what it actually does, it further marginalizes a whole community,” Salas said.

Salas is missing the meaning of “integration”. Integration is when someone legally enters the U.S., gets a job, learns the language, and calls themselves an American. They believe in patriotism. They understand the price of freedom, and that freedom is precious to them. To simply offer blanket citizenship, with all its rights and benefits, to people whose only goal in life is to be supported by Joe Taxpayer is asinine.

According to FOX, an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants are here. That’s a lot of non-integration.

In related news, Bush is visiting Arizona and Texas today to talk about border security. I was pleasantly surprised–until I saw the focus of his visit.

White House aides say the president will make remarks pledging additional resources and the use of technology to secure the border. One concept he’ll discuss is “interior repatriation,” a term that means returning illegal immigrants from Mexico to the interior of their country, rather than returning them just over the other side of the border.

In other words, spend more money taking them back.

Let’s pretend you own a ranch. You have a critter problem. Animals of all different species are coming on to your land. Once they get across your fences, they steal your food, make a mess of everything, tear up the landscape, frighten your family, and in some cases even hurt or kill your livestock. You put out some live traps, releasing the animals back into the wild to run free in their own environment. But you’re seeing the same animals back on your property almost immediately. What do you do? Let them run rampant on your property, taking your resources and giving nothing in return? Your ranch would go under. And why should you support them, anyway?

Now, before you start getting all moonbatty on me and accuse me of calling illegal immigrants animals, rest assured that I’m not. However, the principle is the same. They don’t belong here, in most cases they don’t contribute anything to society, and they do nothing but take from the legitimate citizens of this country. This idea of “interior repatriation” is nothing more than a catch and release program. There is no real deterrent to illegal immigration. People are simply put back across the border to do it all over again.

Bush will also make another pitch for his temporary worker program, which has never really caught on in Congress.

Riiight. Temporary worker program? You mean “Legally Sponging Welfare in the U.S.” program. Personally, I’d like to see that fence erected along the U.S.-Mexico border. Put one agent every mile in a guard tower with a pair of binoculars and a sniper rifle, with strict instructions to shoot on sight.

I was born here as a third-generation American. My grandparents came over from Europe, worked hard, and chased the American dream with a shovel and a lunchbox, not two outstretched hands. Citizenship is a privelige, not a right. It should not be handed to you simply in recognition of your border-jumping-while-pregnant skills.

——–
