What’s Good For The Gander Ain’t Good For The Goose…Apparently

September 30, 2005

You know I really hate when a woman demands a double-standard for herself that is in no way applied to her male peers. Governor Blanco, whom you all know I abhor, gets a free pass on her stupefyingly abysmal response to the Katrina disaster. She asked for it, and she got it. Stupid, pansy-ass senators - probably terrified that a tough question or two would make her weep and they’d be crucified in the press for “being big meanies and making a girl cry.” G-d, she makes me sick!

So while swooning Lady Blanco was being handled with white gloves by the Senate Finance Committee, Mike Brown, former head of FEMA, was taking it up the a** from members of both political parties. They probably weren’t so afraid he’d collapse in tears if they pounded on him as if he were a criminal - and so they did.

I credit Blanco with setting women back at least a generation or two. She has fulfilled all the fallacious, time-worn arguments against women in positions of true power and leadership. I mean, she single-handedly reinforced ancient stereotypes of women folding under pressure, collapsing in befuddled tears, and being unable to make a decision. After watching her pathetic, emotionally crippled performance why would anyone want to take that chance with another woman? The frustration of it is killing me!

New Revolutionaries: Pretenders To the Throne

September 30, 2005

I just found an excellent commentary on the new breed of “revolutionaries” - those die-hard activists and protestors that command such media attention. The author, Kat, from The Middle Ground, has done a find job of noting the excesses and eventual de-legitimization of formerly worthwhile causes. An excerpt:

Except for the extremely devoted, there can be no denying the outcome of leaving South East Asia to the Communists. Not simply due to the spread of Communism, but in the bloody aftermath. Whomever one will blame for that outcome, it is a fact that millions died there while millions more here patted themselves on the back, self congratulatory and self satisfied that they had “ended a war”. It’s still a matter of debate of whether interference was right or wrong, but the death of entire tribes, communities and peoples are a matter of record. Whether watched live on TV or seen in a history program, the image of indegenous people scrambling to leave Vietnam, begging Americans to take them away, the thousands of “boat people” that came after and the killing fields of Cambodia have left an indelible mark on our social conscious.

And more…

For several weeks now, Mother Sheehan and other organizers of the “anti-war” activities and march in Washington, DC have lamented the lack of attention to their cause due to the twin devestating hurricanes of Katrina and Rita. The truth must be much harder to swallow for these pretenders to the throne. That truth is, this is not 1970. Their causes do not resonate with middle America. They are not real revolutionaries. They do not face concerted efforts to suppress them. They are not harassed, assaulted and arrested. They do not face barking dogs, water cannons or brutal police assaults with batons.

Even more so, they do not resemble the revolutionary fore fathers. Men like Jefferson, Adams, Franklin or even Hancock who pledged their fortunes and lives to revolution against a real tyranny where their very lives and property would be forfeit should they lose. There are no gulags, secret police, torture chambers or extra judicial executions with a silent, unmarked grave at the end. They don’t risk hanging much less a stiff prison sentence. They are unlikely to get much more than a few hours in jail and a flimsy fine for destroying property or refusing to obey lawful orders. They are pretenders who risk nothing and pledge nothing but destruction, false causes and false morality while pretending to be “oppressed” by pretend tyrrants.

After four years, the pretend revolutionaries in their pretentious prancing, choose to ignore one of the most important issues in their failing to achieve real wide spread support: the average American remembers the excesses of their forebear protestors against the military and what it did to our fathers and even our mothers who served.

The entire essay is excellent. I urge you to go read the whole thing. If you’re a thinker, it’s well worth it.

October Four State Minuteman Patrol

September 30, 2005

I was going to be involved in this patrol for one week in mid-October, if the hurricanes hadn’t intervened. With homeless family members, and the loss of over a week of work, it’s not possible to be gone for that long. I do hope to get out there and Podcast from the border, if I’m lucky to get away for a couple of days.

In the meantime, let me fill you in on the month-long patrol:

As I understand it, the Minutemen will be meeting at seven sites between Brownsville, TX and San Diego, CA. That’a lot of territory - almost 2000 miles. The specific locations are secret and tightly controlled so as not to attract protesters that bring with them the threat of violence. The various Minutemen groups that represent thousands of volunteers have all received numerous death threats from Latino activists and gangs.

The California-based Brown Berets, a Mexican-American group that was allied with the revolutionary U.S. Black Panther Party in the 1960s, has vowed to confront the Minuteman volunteers during their October vigil.

An Arizona rights group, the Border Action Network, distributed posters to stores in Naco, Douglas and Nogales on the Mexican border this week, declaring the communities “hate-free zones” and saying “racist vigilantes” are unwelcome.

The agenda of the Minutemen is very clear and very deliberate: fill in the gap in U.S. law enforcement and draw attention to the government’s failure to secure U.S. land borders. Their SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) is to observe and report. They are trained to NOT detain or interact with illegal border jumpers, unless to provide water, food, or medical aid, as did happen on the Arizona border last April.

“It is being very tightly controlled this time because the opposition has blatantly said that they are going to direct violence at our volunteers,” Minuteman co-founder Chris Simcox told Reuters in a telephone interview.

“Our patrols will be held on private ranch land … Our volunteers have been well-trained and know how to deal with protesters if they do get near us and will report them to local law enforcement,” he added.

This is not a brigade of lawless criminals out to “hunt” innocent Mexicans. Nothing could be further from the truth. The volunteers range from retired servicement and off-duty law enforcement officers to business men and office workers.

The Minuteman patrols in Arizona back in April were hugely successful and did exactly what they were intended to do - discourage border jumping and report illegals to the Border Patrol for apprehension. In fact, the government was very hard pressed in the months afterward to fake that the patrols had no effect during the month of April.

I believe that the Minutemen are operating in the time-honored spirit of our forefathers. They are doing the job that our federal and state governments have no will to do. When our government fails us, it is our duty as citizens to do the job ourselves.

“In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a brave and scarce man, hated and scorned. When the cause succeeds, however, the timid join him…for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”

-Mark Twain

I wish the Minutement ALL the success in the world, and will do everything I can to support them.

UPDATE: Here is an excerpt from MinutemanHQ:

Contrary to recent reports in the media, the MCDC has greatly expanded in the past few months to put forth a strong national effort to assist in securing this nation’s borders from illegal entry. The risk of terrorists and criminals entering this country is at a critical level. When the government fails to fulfill its primary duty and protect this nation, it is up to self-governing people to step into the breach. Americans have historically organized and done what is necessary to defend this country. Today is no different.

Our Minuteman volunteers act as extra eyes and ears for the Border Patrol, spotting illegal activity at the border and reporting it to authorities. Most of these state affiliates will be running border watch operations 24/7 for the entire month of October.

current information. For more information, please visit our website: http://www.MinutemanHQ.com

Moonbats Don’t Get the Ground Zero Memorial

September 30, 2005

Blackfive and Michelle Malkin have the details, but the word is that the Islam-loving, American-hating “International Freedom Center” has been nixed from the 9/11 memorial plans. Thank the Lord for small favors. The “It’s your fault because you’re American” theme was disgusting, and it’s about time someone woke up and put the kibash on it.

Now if we could only get that wretched “Crescent of Embrace” BS out of Pennsylvania we’d be doing well.

I think it’s an important point to bring up that the majority of Americans had a problem with the IFC desecrating Ground Zero that way. America made its voice heard, and the voice of my countrymen is not one of apologetic, liberal, whining, pro-Communist idiots. It’s a voice of pride, of resiliency, and of firm resolve. 9/11 is to be remembered. It is our Pearl Harbor, our rallying cry. We will not forget 9/11, and we will not let them put in a memorial that tells us to.

%@&%! Dhimmi Bush

September 29, 2005

ARGHHHH! Cao had this blindingly infuriating news today: Bush certifies financial aid for Saudi Arabia. You have got to be kidding me. Financial aid? For that filthy-rich, terrorist-producing, women-oppressing, slave-trading, hideous-farce-of-an-ally kingdom???

We’re reeling from two major hurricanes with g-d knows how much in rebuilding expenses, and Bush is going to give our hard-earned taxpayer money to a country literally rolling in it?? C’mon man! Even in the best, happiest, and wealthiest of times, I wouldn’t want our money going to those despicable terrorist-allied royals.

Oh yeah, and for good measure - just to make sure his head is wedged as far up the Sheik’s ass as possible - he has also waived the financial sanctions against the filthy rich kingdom for their modern-day slave trade!

How does the Dhimmi in the White House sneak around and do all this crap?! Oh g-d, I’m more pissed than I’ve been in a long time. I’ve got an instant fury headache. I’ve gotta go before I let loose some really, really bad language. Go read it all yourself in relative peace and quiet.

Kudos to Jihad Watch for catching President Dhimmi in the act. And H/T to Cao for spreading the word. I’ve gotta go take some Tylenol.

Government As Big Shepherd

September 29, 2005

During our Rita evacuation, my husband and I came to the realization that neither of us makes good sheep. Never have, never will. There are some people that expect and want the government to take care of them. They feel helpless to do for themselves what they believe the government should be doing for them. Such a mentality makes me want to scream! And it’s dangerously insidious:

“If you think of yourselves as helpless and ineffectual, it is certain that you will create a despotic government to be your master. The wise despot, therefore, maintains among his subjects a popular sense that they are helpless and ineffectual.”

-Frank Herbert

Some people may disagree with our determination to not follow the herd during an oncoming catastrophe. Some will argue that this just creates more problems in the long run for the masses, that it somehow adds to the chaos. I disagree wholeheartedly, because I feel that more people taking care of themselves and their own business is what this country NEEDS - not less. I don’t trust the government and I certainly don’t need it. There’s no way that the government can take care of me and mine better than we can ourselves. And in fact, as evidenced in Texas, being caught in the herd can be deadly!

I definitely subscribe to the theory that less is better when it comes to government roles and actions. And yes, that includes disaster management. I still believe in personal accountability.

“That government is best which governs the least, because its people discipline themselves.”

-Thomas Jefferson

And so, my one unique foray into the unwashed masses of media-induced hysteria and panic will never be repeated. Ever. We will do for ourselves and for others - and let the government take care of those less able and willing to care for themselves.

“I am certainly not one of those who need to be prodded. In fact, if anything, I am the prod.”

-Sir Winston Churchill

Along these lines, I found a wonderful essay at The Anchoress by Peggy Noonan on the important differences between government authority and responsibility. There’s a warning in there for ALL of us:

The day before hurricane Rita hit Texas, last Friday, I saw on TV something that disturbed me. It was not the usual scene of crashing waves and hardy reporters being blown sideways by wind gusts. It was a fat Texas guy swimming in the waves off Galveston. He’d apparently decided the high surf was a good thing to jump into, so he went for a prehurricane swim. Two cops saw him, waded into the surf and arrested him. When I saw it the guy was standing there in orange trunks being astonished as the cops put handcuffs on him and hauled him away.

…I thought: Oh no, this is isn’t good. This is authority, not responsibility.

You’d have to be crazy, in my judgment, to decide you were going to go swim in the ocean as a hurricane comes. But in the America where I grew up, you were allowed to be crazy. You had the right. Sometimes you were crazy and survived whatever you did. Sometimes you didn’t, and afterwards everyone said, “He was crazy.”

Last week I quoted Gerald Ford: “The government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have.” I was talking about money. But it applies also to personal freedom, to the rights of the individual, including his right to do something stupid as long as it’s legal, like swimming.

Government has real duties in disaster. Maintaining the peace is a primary one. But if we demand that our government protect us from all the weather all the time, if we demand that it protect us from rain and hail, if we make government and politicians pay a terrible price for not getting us out of every flood zone and rescuing us from every wave, we’re going to lose a lot more than we gain. If we give government all authority then we are giving them all power.

And we will not only lose the right to be crazy, we’ll lose the right to be sane. A few weeks ago when, for a few days, some level of government, it isn’t completely clear, decided no one should be allowed to live in New Orleans after the flood, law-enforcement officers went to the home of a man who had a dry house, a month’s supply of food and water, and a gun to protect himself. The police demanded that he leave. Why? He was fine. He had everything he needed. The man was enraged: It was his decision, he said, and he was staying.

It is the government’s job to warn and inform. That’s what we have the National Weather Service for. It is not government’s job to command and control and make microdecisions about the lives of people who want to do it their own way.

This sort of thing of course has been going on for a long time. In Katrina and Rita it just became more dramatically obvious as each incident played out on TV.

I’m glad I’m not alone in my distrust of an ever-increasing government role. I really, really wish that the hurricane catastrophes had highlighted the strongest and best of America - the Gray Tribe - instead of the weakest and whiniest. Don’t get me wrong, the Grays were out in full force, doing what they do with excellence and perseverence. But their own self-preservation and self-government is exactly what keeps them out of the spotlight. It’s just that the Pinks got all the attention. Case in point: compare the effective responses of Mississippi and Alabama to the freakish chaos of New Orleans. Who got the attention, and the money? Another case in point: Nederland, a small town between Port Arthur and Beaumont, TX was squished by Rita. Yet, unlike both Port Arthur and Beaumont, it’s a 99% white blue-collar community and 99% on it’s own. No federal or state help - only local. No problem - you won’t see them bitchin’ on the news either - they’re too busy trying to salvage their community.

I’m afraid that the ever-increasing neediness of the Pink Tribe will justify a greater and more sweeping role for government. After all, what politican wants to be witch-hunted by the media for “failing” to do for millions of people what most of them should be able to do for themselves? None. So amendments, actions, proposals, and what-not will start to fly in the ensuing months as the government grabs more power and seeks to CYA for future disasters.

Wordmasters

September 29, 2005

My original intent with the Wordmasters segment was to offer quotations, mostly from bygone eras, that are apropos and applicable to modern events. And let me tell you, that’s not really a hard thing to do. Nothing is new under the sun, and history repeats itself. We think our times and problems are so unique - but nope, it’s all really just a rehash. Different details, same old issues. So when I find a quotation from ages ago that is perfectly apropos to today’s Big Issue, it’s like finding a small lost treasure.

In honor of the media’s stupefyingly stupid coverage of both Katrina and Rita, I offer you the latest installment of Wordmasters:

Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your HONOR. That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse.

I Feel His Pain

September 29, 2005

Kit recently turned me on to The Therapist, whom I’ve since turned into a regular read. However, he’s having a blogging crises of confidence: “wtf am I doing, and why????” I must admit - I totally get it. I’m there, man.

Kit and I have discussed this. Why do we do what we do? Why do we pull all-nighters? Why do we agonize over form, function, and content? Why do we ignore our families and our lives to research and write a series about Vietnam? And then again, why do we pull all-nighters? How do people do this part-time? Arrrgggh! Is there a secret that we’re not privy too?

There are a bzillion blogs out there and most are navel-gazing bores - they get their family and friends and the occassional voyeuristic lurker. Then there’s others that do nothing more than post a link with or without an editorial aside. They’ve been around since before most of us knew what blogging was - and they reap hundreds of comments per title! You know it’s not the original content, because they don’t write any - so how does that work?

Click “post”

Get no traffic.

I’m just going to park this thing for a while, folks, while I try to figure out how to match the ascerbic wit of other satire sites, some of which cannot even maintain a single paragraph of quasi-journalistic cadence through even one paragraph. But they’ve got me hands down in the traffic department…

Either way, the time has come to change this riff. I’m tired of flailing in a genre that, while good, and funny, and whatever it supposedly is–isn’t working.

I get it, man. Really. The Therapist writes bitingly witty satire, and we write original editorials, exclusive news (Pantano and more), and investigative articles (Brother Against Brother). Different genre, but same medium.

So, is this an addiction? A hobby? Or what? My personal diagnosis is that it’s an addiction, because we’re certainly not in it for fame or fortune! Whether it’s healthy or not remains to be seen.

Why Do We Have To Rebuild New Orleans?

September 29, 2005

I don’t get it. Am I missing some crucial component of the argument as to why it’s a good idea to rebuild New Orleans exactly where it was before? This is a really, really bad idea - and it’s going to cost billions more than it is worth! To some extent I understand that New Orleans is one of our oldest cities, but it was also one of the scummiest. And now it’s a septic pit of toxic waste.

In New Orleans, some 160,000 houses are believed damaged beyond repair, and estimates of tens of thousands to more than 300,000 cars lie abandoned.

Much of the wreckage was drenched in what environmental officials call septic stew or bacterial soup - a putrid mix of floodwater and raw sewage from more than two dozen major waste water treatment facilities knocked out of commission or flooded by Katrina.

Clean-up from the hurricane, that breached levees to flood New Orleans, will take a year to complete, the Corps said, at a cost of $1.5 billion.

Ok, getting beyond the obvious fact that there were 300,000 cars abandoned by people who supposedly had NO WAY of getting out of the city…

All that debris soaked in a putrid bacterial soup [just typing that is generating a gag reflex!] - where will it go and how will they get it out of New Orleans?

From collapsed houses to abandoned cars, debris covers the ruined city as far as the eye can see. There is an estimated 22 million tons of garbage in New Orleans alone, much of it toxic and hazardous and needing special handling.

Jim Pogue, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokesman, said on Wednesday that debris from Hurricane Katrina across southeastern Louisiana amounted to 55 million cubic yards, enough to fill 3.5 million large dump trucks.

“The trucks would stretch 36,500 miles. They would reach all the way around the earth at the equator and you would still have enough trucks left over to stretch from New York to Denver,” he said.

So why can’t we just backfill the bowl of New Orleans, like the steaming dump that it is? We do it to landfills all the time. Put some soccer fields on top, or something. At least they’d be above sea level.

Do we have any readers out there that think it’s necessary to rebuild New Orleans? Because I feel like I’m missing some crucial knowledge that makes it a good idea. Educate me, people!

Just between us, it was almost a relief when Team Satan and their Iraqi puppets greased a couple hundred of my lovable losers last week. ‘Thinning the herd,’ if you know what I mean, and I suppose it probably raised our average insurgent IQ ten points. To 67, maybe. Still, word-of-mouth about this kind of missile strike crap gets around, and it has really screwed our recruiting. Even with the dipshit teenage mosque-rats in Damascus and Riyadh. It’s gotten so bad, in fact, that we had to open up a recruiting office in France. I shit you not: reduced to recruiting Le. fucking. Fron-say.

Mudville Gazette has the story about one of the most amazing Marines you’ll hear about. He was wounded and lost the entire left side of his brain. Not only is he still alive, but he’s fully conscious and communicative - and doctors can’t figure out why.

Are You Conservative sums up the race-hating liberals with a little “draw-ring”. Go see.

Former Marine Goes to Report “News” for Al-Jazeera

September 28, 2005

Kadnine has an update on Josh Rushing, the Marine captain who resigned from the Corps after appearing in Control Room, a documentary on Al Jazeera. Apparently Rushing has decided to go “whole hog” (was that a great pun or what?) and just go work for Al Jazeera.

‘In a time when American media has become so nationalised, I’m excited about joining an organisation that truly wants to be a source of global information,” Josh said. “I witnessed during the war how the U.S. media was co-opted by the U.S. government’s messaging. I am proud to be part of a news network that believes in the power of the un-spun truth.”

Excuse me while I go look for a bucket to vomit in. As Kadnine puts it, “Upon receiving his commission, he did NOT solemnly swear ‘to be a source of global information’ but rather to ’support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.’” What kind of freaking weenie is this guy? Doesn’t sound like he’s fit to wear the uniform of the Marine Corps, that’s for damn sure. Traitorous pile of dog turds.

And about this “nationalistic” stuff: He’s saying it like it’s a bad thing. You know, I like being a nationalist. I do believe I live in the greatest country on earth. To me, the life of one American soldier is worth more than all the terrorists in the world, and most of France. America first. Always, without exception, no matter what.

For this Marine to take an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, and then turn around and say “Oh, hey guys…you know, I’ve been thinking. I think I’m gonna go hang out with Al-Terrorists and report news for them. Screw you and your ideas of duty, honor, and country”….who does this guy think he is? And what the hell gives him the right to spit in the face of every Marine he served with, every Marine who’s ever buttoned up a set of dress blues, every Marine who fought for their lives on Iwo Jima or Guadalcanal or anywhere ELSE? Nationalistic? You’re damn right we Americans are nationalistic. We’ve earned that right. And to say that the media is nationalistic…does he mean communistic? Oh, I get it. The American MSM is nationalistic, all right - just not about our nation.

And “un-spun truth”? I didn’t realize there was a drug problem among officers in Iraq, but apparently this guy got into someone’s stash. The U.S. liberal media spins more than a…alright, Heidi, I won’t say it.

Marines who understand the oath they took, who freaking get it, should take this guy out back and beat the stupid out of him. Then they should try explaining the phrase “aid and comfort”. I’m thinking he slept through that class. Let’s hope he wakes the hell up before he starts offering them intel he had access to as a Marine officer.

How do other Marines feel about all this? Well, ask Kadnine.

Don’t you dare get any Marines killed, Josh. I’m warning you.
